Palm Desert Veteran’s Benefits Attorney

Like many of our other Coachella Valley clients, we are often approached by veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces for help with their estate planning and wealth management needs. Unlike other clients, veterans are eligible for special benefits that are not available to the general public. These Veteran’s Benefits, like the Aid and Attendance Program, can help veterans, their spouses, and their families pay for long-term care, but too many vets do not receive the benefits to which they are entitled.

Some veterans simply don’t realize they are eligible for such assistance. Others try to apply for benefits, but get frustrated with the application and approval process and give up. Still others apply for benefits but are denied despite their eligibility.

The Veteran’s Benefits attorneys at Desert Law Group can help you receive the benefits you’ve earned through your service to our country. We help veterans and their families apply for and receive Aid and Attendance benefits, as well as non-service connected pension and survivor benefits.

The Aid and Attendance Program

The Aid and Attendance Program is a cash benefit that is available to eligible veterans and their surviving spouses to help pay for medical costs such as professional in-home care, assisted living or nursing home care, insurance premiums, prescription drugs, and more. This benefit helps veterans and their widowed spouses to live at home for as long as possible, helping to protect personal assets from these costs.

Eligible veterans can receive up to $2,054/month for a couple, $1,732/month for a single veteran and $1,113 for a single surviving spouse, tax-free. This cash payment can be very helpful to seniors who are on a fixed income, yet, of the 25% of seniors in the United States who could qualify for The Aid and Attendance benefit, only 5% of are actually receiving it!

To qualify, veterans must:

  • Be 65 or older, OR permanently and completely disabled.
  • Have been discharged from service under conditions other than dishonorable.
  • Have had at least 90 days of active military service, one day of which was served during a period of war.

Have a net worth that is not considered “excessive” and a countable family income that falls below annual limits set by the Veterans Administration.
